Sport Premium
The PE & Sport Premium is extra funding given to schools to ensure that all pupils have access to additional and sustainable high quality Physical Education and Sport.
We are passionate about the importance of physical activity and sport in developing the whole child. Evidence shows that those who participate in regular physical activity are more confident, have greater self-esteem, and better emotional/mental health.
Some research even links physical activity to improvements in behaviour, attitudes to learning, application to studies and consequently academic performance.

What are our Aims?
Our core aims are to:
-
Improve fitness
-
Develop skills
-
Increase participation
-
Improve mental health & wellbeing
We will achieve this through the following associations:
- Membership of the West Lancashire Sport Partnership who provide specialist coaching, CPD and a comprehensive competition programme.
-
Shared facilities - close links with the local high school, local sports clubs and societies.
What has been the IMPACT of our PE and Sport provision?
-
Children are physically much fitter - this has been observed not only by staff at competitive sporting events (and reflected in the outcomes of such events), but also commented on by sports coaches.
- Attitudes towards physical activity have improved over the years and we have had a high take-up of after-school Sports Club across school this year.
-
Swimming - 100% of the pupils in our Year 6 class are able to swim 25m using a range of different strokes effectively, and can perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
-
Staff confidence in planning and delivering PE has improved, following the examples set by specialist coaches over the last 8 years, as has their subject knowledge in this area.
-
The impact of actions relating to mental health and wellbeing is extremely positive with pupils being well supported in this area.
Attainment is high in PE throughout school.

What’s the plan for 2025-26
-
We will continue with the rigorous programme of physical activity through our partnership with TASA (Tardis Active Schools Alliance) and WLSP (West Lancashire Sport Partnership). The range of activities planned will ensure that ALL our pupils take part in competitive, inter-school activity again.
-
This year we intend to loom to further enhance our outdoor provision, providing resources which will ensure that our Sport Premium investment is sustainable in the longer term.
Are these improvements Sustainable?
The time, commitment and dedication invested by staff at Rufford C.E. Primary for over a decade now have successfully raised the profile of physical education, sport and fitness to a point where it is embedded in the school’s culture.
Through our partnership with WLSP, and our investment in professional development, our school is able to provide a sustainable curriculum in which all children have access to high quality Physical Education provision.
Our financial investment in facilities will benefit our pupils for many years to come.

Curriculum Swimming 2024-25
Schools are required to publish information about outcomes in swimming for Year 6. This is something that is paid for through the school's core budget and not Sport Premium Funding.
The following table reflects that a high proportion of pupils leave our school able to swim. and this is significantly above national figures:

Sport Partnerships
West Lancashire Sport Partnership
We work closely with WLSP who organise our School Games provision as well as our inter-school competitions programme:
TASA:
Our local schools cluster, TARDIS (Tarleton and Rural District Schools) established TASA (Tardis Active Schools Alliance) in 2017 as a way to improve opportunities for the young people in our schools. We work in closely with WLSP to increase participation in sport for all children and promote physically active lifestyles.
