Curriculum

We make learning fun and rewarding through our engaging and active curriculum. Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the children in school, providing them with a broad and balanced programme full of exciting opportunities to learn in all subjects in a variety of different ways.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception children) we follow recommendations set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

This involves the children learning through three prime areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

and four specific areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Art & Design

From Year 1 to Year 6 children follow the 2014 National Curriculum requirements in all curriculum areas. This includes English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Design Technology, Art and Design, Physical Education, History, Geography, Music, Modern Foreign Language (French) and PSHE. In addition to these subjects we teach R. E. which, as a Church School, we place a special emphasis on; we follow the Blackburn Diocesan Syllabus.
