School Games Mark Award
We are thrilled to announce that we have once again been awarded the School Games Gold Level Mark Award for 2022-23. Congratulations to all of the children who have taken part in sport across this academic year. A huge thank you to Miss Travis for her ongoing commitment and enthusiasm for developing sport, P.E. and fitness throughout school.

School Sports Council representatives
As part of the School Games, I am very proud to present our new sports council representatives for 2023 - 2024. They will will meet regularly with WLSP and children from other schools across our locaal cluster to think of new and exciting sporting ideas. together with the Year 6 Sport Prefects they are determined to make sport at Rufford even better!

2023-24 Achievements
Lancashire Pathways Bee Stingers Netball Competition - 4th Place
Eight KS2 pupils represented school at the TASA Swimming Gala at Edge Hill University in April.
There were some fantastic individual performances and both the girls and boys achieved gold medals in the relay events. Overall, the children won 4 silver medals and 12 gold medals!
This teamwork meant that as a school we came first, winning the middle schools trophy!
What a great achievement, well done all of you.

Judo Club Years 1 - 6 Spring 1 2024 30 children took part.
A huge congratulations to Leo and Isla who won the West Lancashire Sports Councillors sticker competition. Their winning sticker designs will now be printed and used in schools across West Lancashire.
Well done to our two girl’s football teams who played in a friendly event at JMO. They played lots of games: winning some and losing some but, most importantly, they played as a team and supported each other.
In March, our KS2 Sports Hall Athletics Team travelled to Blackpool to represent West Lancashire in the county championships having qualified by winning the tournament at Burscough Sports Centre in December. They had an excellent day, finishing in 6th place out of 13 teams. The games organisers said ‘they showed teamwork, passion and respect in all their activities and were excellent at representing West Lancs!’ Thank you to Miss Travis for preparing them all for the competition, well done everyone!
For the 2nd year running we are the 'Small School Athletics Champions of West Lancashire!'
We will now represent West Lancs. in the finals to be held in Blackpool in March 2024.
Year 5 and Year 6 Football Competition 11 teams took part. Rufford came in 7th place. Lots of goals scored - but the goal of the tournament was definitely from Arthur who scored a super long range goal!
Zac and Flo (2022 - 2023 Sports Councillors) attended a sport’s presentation ceremony during which they collected Rufford School's Gold Mark Award. At the event they met guest speaker Oliver Partington who plays professional rugby league. Oliver plays as a prop and loose forward for the Salford Red Devils in the Betfred Super League and for the England Knights at international level.
On 17th October, junior children joined other schools at the TASA Composite Relay Event held at Rufford Park. We entered 6 teams altogether and they joined a total of 24 teams in each race. It was a very enjoyable event. The boy’s teams finished in 1st, 10th and 11th places whilst the girl’s teams were awarded 11th, 12th and 18th places. Congratulations to them all!
The Year 5 & 6 football team enjoyed their first success of this academic year on Tuesday, 10th October. They represented school at the TASA Football Competition finishing in second place in their league and as overall winners of the medium sized schools with 4 wins and 1 draw.
Miss Travis and Mr Newsham were so proud of them and their amazing performance. Congratulations to the whole team!
2022-23 Achievements
Miss Travis took a team of 24 children to the TASAlympics at Edge Hill.
They have had a very successful day with the Year 3&4 Team finishing in 2nd place and the Year 5&6 Team in 4th place. The Year 3&4 girls were placed in bronze position in the relay whilst the Year 3&4 boys won silver!
Katie in Year 4 finished in silver position in the Year 3&4 age group overall and Alfie in Year 6 in bronze position in the Year 5&6 age group!
Thank you to Miss Travis, who quite rightly made the team photograph for once! and to Miss Helm, Ella-Mei and Mrs Weaver for their help during the event.

A huge well done to the Year 3 & 4 Tag Rugby Team who represented school in a TASA competition. They had a great time and finished in 3rd place!
Year 3&4 children attended the TASA Quad Kids event at Edge Hill taking part with twenty-five other schools. Miss Travis and Mrs Ewins, who accompanied them to the event, said that they did us proud, especially as it was such a hot evening. Their teamwork and support for one another was great to see and shines through in this photograph. Well done to you all.
A team of ten Year 3 and 4 pupils represented school at a TASA Sport’s Day event help at JMO, Skelmersdale. They finished in second place, well done all of you!
Reception children enjoyed their Mini-wheeler sessions with West Lancashire Sport Partnership learning all about bikes, bicycle safety and how to ride independently.
We started the New Year with more sporting success as our swimming team were awarded second place in the TASA Swimming Gala held at Edge Hill University.
There were some excellent individual performances as well as a great team effort. Well done to all of the children who represented school so keenly.
Congratulations to our sports hall athletics team who won the tournament at Burscough Sports Centre. They will now go on to represent West Lancashire in the county championships in Blackpool in the new year! Well done all of you, a great achievement! Thank you to Miss Travis for training the team this half term.
The Tri-Golf Day went down very well with each child from Year 1 to Year 6 enjoying a taster session during the day. Stuart Warren who delivered the day was very impressed by the children’s enthusiasm, skills and interest. He sent this message the following day: “I just wanted to thank all the staff for such an amazing welcome to such a friendly school. There is a lovely atmosphere at the school and the children are, as you know, amazing and rather talented!” Staff will be following up on these sessions during P.E. lessons.
Miss Travis accompanied last Year's Sport Council members, Maddie and George, to the presentation of our School Games Gold award at Ormskirk Cricket Club. During the morning they were lucky enough to meet Lancashire and England professional Cricketer, George Lavelle.
KS2 team who represented school at the Composite Relay Event held at Rufford Park on Tuesday afternoon. The event was split into girls and boys teams with 19 teams entering each event.
Our B teams both finished in 9th place whilst our Girl's A team were placed in 5th place overall and our Boy's A team finished in 1st place! Well done all of you!
The Netball team took part in the 2nd round of the Bee Stingers TASA netball competition held at Burscough Priory and came 2nd! Congratulations to the whole team and our thanks to Miss Travis and also to Mrs Chilvers for all their hard work training the squad.
Congratulations to our football team who started 2022-23 in a positive way by coming 2nd in the TASA football league. We think their smiles say it all on this photograph!
